There's nothing like summer in Montana - it is undoubtedly the most popular season in the Seeley-Swan Valley. There is a multitude of activities for every age and interest, from sunbathing to water-skiing, from golfing to horseback riding, from stargazing to bird watching. Following are some of the more popular activities and events in the area. Enjoy, and remember to plan a little time for sleeping!
The Seeley Lake Fourth of July Celebration
Come visit us on the Fourth of July and see how small town Montana celebrates Independence Day! The town of Seeley Lake puts on quite a show, including fireworks on the lake, a parade through the center of town, an arts and crafts show, and much more!
Day Trip to Glacier National Park
Well worth the 2 hour drive, Glacier National Park is known as the Crown Jewel of the Continent and is one of Montana's most beautiful areas. An easy way to see the beauty of Glacier is to make the drive from West Glacier to St. Mary on the Going to the Sun Road. If you plan to take this route, you should allow for at least 8 hours of total driving time.
If you are feeling more adventurous, Glacier National Park boasts over 730 miles of maintained hiking trails in its 1 million acres of forests and alpine meadows; many of these are short hikes or day hikes. Keep in mind that there is usually still snow in the park until the end of June, so dress appropriately. For more information of Glacier National Park visit the National Park Service Web Site.
Take a Float on the Clearwater Canoe Trail
One of the best wildlife viewing "trails" in the valley, this 3 1/2 mile trip down the Clearwater River is a must for nature lovers. Loons, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, moos, muskrat and beaver are just a few of the many animals common to this river environment. Along the canoe trail, several grassy banks offer ideal spots for a picnic - complete with a spectacular view of the Swan Mountain Range. At a leisurely pace, the trip will take about 2 hours. Don't forget to bring your camera!
